I'm still hung-over. I'm going to the movies.

Wow! Some guy talked over the entire intro of "Stairway to Heaven"? That had to sound like hell. I can see the hot line blinking with the intensity of a sunspot. I once heard a guy do the same thing to the album cut of "Light My Fire" and since that song was and is at the top of my list of all time favorites his feat did nothing to impress me. I had no respect for the technical accomplishment. Perhaps that's why by the late '70s the less talk AOR format was becoming a huge success on FM. Stuff like The Doors and Led Zeppelin just did not lend themselves to talkovers. I always wondered about the Tremeloes' "Here Comes My Baby". That record had that dumb cocktail party noise at the very beginning. So was the post at the start of the music or the start of the vocals? I liked that record but hated that beginning. I think most us would slip cue past the open or cross fade in a music set or with a good jing, especially since the beginning was at a lower level and you'd have to pot the damn thing way up to hear it anyway.

My favorite song for hitting the post . . . That's a good one . . . Hmmm . . . Let me think . . . I'd have to say Jim Stafford's "Spiders and Snakes". I could nail that one every time and that nice pounding intro was great background. In the "solid gold million dollar weekend" category I'm gonna go with Kenny O'dell and "Beautiful People". Geez are we old.

I don't think anyone can hit the post anymore. Like good production, staging, and jingles, that talent seems to be a thing of the past. And do we still call these radio folk DJs? I mean even when we carted up the music it at least started out on a disc. I'll even give credit for CDs but when the music source is a hard drive . . . 'Course you can't really call most of them "radio personalities" either.

Vikes vs Pack today my friend. Perhaps we should wager.

    Marco
