Yesterday I had to go back to MY STORY, Chapter 5 to see what I wrote about Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The reason? I heard from someone mentioned there who was definitely part of MY STORY. Wayne Johnson. My memory failed me and I referred to him as Duane Johnson. Oops! I'll have to fix that. We went to Brown Institute together for a while. Here's how Brown worked. Every month a new class began and ever month those who had been there for 9 months graduated. Wayne beat me to Brown by several months and left to begin his career while I had months to go. At one time, if you were a broadcaster in the five-state mid-west (Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, North & South Dakota) the chance that one, if not all, of your colleagues was a grad of B-I were almost 100%. I remembered quite clearly that Wayne worked in Cedar Rapids, but I had forgotten that we worked together in Austin, Minnesota. (What did I do to kill all those brain cells?) I also forgot his visits while I was KDWB and KSTP. (Do Big Macs kill brain cells?) Now I will have to pick Wayne's brain and grab my webmaster and do some editing and correcting. He also had some pix and I'll link to them this week in a comment....

Damn! I have to write to my friend Claudia...NOW she wrote to ask me if I'm in a coma....

BTW...the Vikings win last night was dirty but welcome. Just one question....Whose idea was it to kick to Reggie Bush? (I have an idea....)

Don't know why I haven't thought of simply using the Yahoo picture sharing feature for these photos. I'll load up a bunch this week. Here's a link to the Cedar Rapids shots I got from Wayne: Cedar Rapid Pix Here

It's 4:02 in the morning and I am awake "checking my mail". I would read but I'm out of books until I can get to the library unless I read something already read. After the debate last night my sleep must have been tortured because I awoke from a nightmare that it was President Obama, Vice President Biden, Attorney General Leahy,...the only good thing about it was that they were making Amtrak wonderful!

Hey, Amtrak Wonderful..Now that would be great. Not much happening here. It was THE MODESTO HIGH 40th Reunion last week. We lost lots of guys after 11 so they could get back to malik the cowwss. Talk soon, K.

Hey Kenny--You know about me and trains. The Modesto High 40th. For those who have never been to Modesto--there is an ethnic quality to the dairy industry there. Portuguese..right? You could see them because they were wearing thigh high rubber boots. You see in California, contrary to the advertising the cows are miserable. Rather than roaming in green pastures between milking...they are herded into tiny mud-lots that during the rainy season become calf deep (no pun intended) in mud and cow crap. Anyone who ventures into that area with out rubber boots on their feet and the smell of linguica on their breath is going where no man should go. When I was working at KDWB every year for a few I rode the elephants of the Ringling Bros. circus from the train to the Met Center. I wore the same jeans three years in a row because I couldn't get the elephant poop smell out of them. Years later when I met my first Modesto Portuguesa Dairy-man I was reminded of that smell of elephant crap. I often have wondered if there was some weird genetic shit going on in California....you know.....and elephant/Holstein....sort of an Elestein, maybe. California dairy cows aren't any bigger than Minnesota cows but they have very very good memories.....hmmmmmmm.

At least you didn't pick on the Russians. Hey Rob. Why don't you tell them about your surfing at Ocean Beach in San Francisco?

S (above) is one of my San Francisco friends. Moved to the US when he was 12 and introduced me to a great bakery on Geary out on the avenues. If you are ever in SF and on your way on the bus to the Cliff House or the Art Museum get off the bus and grab a peroshki and one of their strange pastries.Click Here I am will to bet that on any given day they bake a couple of thousand loaves of bread and at least 500 peroshki. My fav is the meat/mushroom.

Even thohe was born in Russia, S. came to the US and fell in love with surfing. He asked me for a cigarette on Ocean Beach and before the year was out got me into a wet suit. THAT'S a story for another time.

Yesterday afternoon I went to the movie Apaloosa with my brother. About 15 minutes into the movie I leaned over to Tim and said, "I LOVE this movie." Just a hard-core western and I didn't want it to end.

I just finished watching tonite's The Office. So many funny parts can't remember them all. Kevin continues to be one of my favorite characters. My nephew hates the Jim/Pam story-line, but I kind of like it. Two seasons ago when Jim cried, so did I.

Other shows I never miss: THE UNIT-Sunday night CBS. It is fantastic. I thought they canceled it but it survived. Only problem is (except on the West Coast) the football always runs late and the show never begins on time. Bad for setting DVR. The first two shows were both 9.5's on a scale of 10.

I like NCSI, Criminal Minds, CSI-New York....I feel badly if I miss any of them.

I have totally given up on: LOST, HEROES, CSI-Miami, Prison Break. If you continue to watch them....well.....what can I say?

I am so excited about tomorrow. At noon the HD-Met Opera broadcasts begin with Salome. A friend and I were on the phone, tonight, wondering whether that is pronounced............... Sal-oh-me...or:

    Sal-oh-me...or:

    Sal-aah-me...like the sausage?

I guess I'll find out tomorrow when I hear how the host pronounces it. Anyway, I love the opera and like a football game it is better on TV than it is at the park (Theater). Unless you have Superman's telescopic vision ( he had that didn't he?) you are much more up-close and personal in a movie theater watching the singers in 25-foot high close-ups.

Went to lunch alone and had a great salad. Surprisingly, I wasn't surrounded by anybody particularly weird. It was a gray day with a little rain spit ever so often. I actually love cloudy days and I look forward to the end of day-light savings time and the early darkness. "I love the night-life..I love to boogie".....Doesn't Salome deliver John the Baptist's head to Herod? I'll find out tomorrow. That name strikes me funny. I KNOW the reason for it....but when I hear it I always think of John the Methodist...or John the Presbyterian....or John the Christian Scientist. Didn't Salome dance the dance of the seven veils? I'll find out tomorrow, I guess. Boy! Tomorrow I'm going to learn a lot. Tomorrow...tomorrow...I love yah tomorrow....you're always.........excuse me. I feel like I have to throw up.

wait a minute....I thought of another:

    To-morrow, and to-morrow, and to-morrow,
Creeps in this petty pace from day to day,
    To the last syllable of recorded time;

    Shakespeare - MACBETH

Hey! I got out of bed for this one:

"...Tara!...Home. I'll go home, and I'll think of some way to get him back! After all, tomorrow is another day!"
